SOUTH CENTRAL

This region, stretching between Prince William Sound and the Alaska Range, is known for its fjords, glaciers, and superb fishing. In its northern reaches it encompasses the mountainous Copper River Basin and a region full of rivers and wildlife. Prince William Sound, to the south, teems with sights such as icy glaciers (more than 150 of them) and ocean beaches swarming with shorebirds (over 240 migrating species). Alaska’s most populous region includes the towns of Valdez, Glennallen, Anchorage, Seward, and Homer.
