Alaska
INSIDE PASSAGE

This region, Alaska’s southeastern leg, borders Canada’s Yukon Territory and British Columbia. As the state’s southern-most region, it is filled with lush forests, fjords, and miles of coastline. Glaciers carved this area, so slopes are steep and spectacular. This "panhandle" is an excellent place to watch for humpback whales and forest-dwellers such as bald eagles, brown bears, deer, moose, and lynx. From kayaks, tour boats, or on foot, visitors can view glaciers and waterfalls edged with mist and rainbow colors. This region is home to Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Haines, and Skagway.
