Favorite Hawaiian Recipes

Hawaiian food is unique and delicious. Whether you are enjoying some time in Hawaii and what to create your own Hawaiian meal or you want to bring a taste of Hawaii to your home, here are a few recipes to try.

Ahi Poke

This Hawaiian dish is light, and delicious and it is fairly simple to prepare.

You will need:
8 oz fresh ahi steaks, cubed
1/8 cup soy sauce
1 tsp green onions, chopped
1 tbsp onion, chopped
2 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1/2 chile pepper, seeded and diced
salt to taste
2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix gently, serve same day. Poke is made with raw fish, so be sure to use all caution and safety procedures when using raw fish. In addition to safety, you will want to only use the best and freshest fish for both health safety and flavor.

Kalua Pork

This is a delicious pork recipe.

You will need:
4 lb pork butt
3 tbsp Hawaiian salt
2 tbsp liquid smoke
2-3 banana leaves

This is an oven recipe, however, you can also make this with your charcoal barbecue. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Cut any excess fat from the pork and cut 1/4 inch slits on all sides. Rub the pork butt with the salt and liquid smoke. Wrap the pork in the banana leaves and tie with string. Then wrap the package in foil. Place the pork in a roasting pan and fill with about two inches of water. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately four hours. Finish by unwrapping the pork and shredding. Serve hot.
