Hit the Road | Drive the Red Rock Scenic Byway
This scenic byway in Arizona is a short 7.5 miles, but it is filled with wonderful destination for visitors to explore. The Red Rock Scenic Byway winds through the beauty of the Red Rock Country in Sedona. Visitors driving this byway can enjoy the scenery as well as the fascinating natural features of the high desert.
Drivers along this byway will enjoy seeing the many scenic views along the way. Travelers can start their journey in the Coconino National Forest. Drivers can start at one of the visitors centers in the region to learn all about what to do in the area. The byway winds through the national forest with hills covered with juniper, pinon pine and more. In the distance travels can see the amazing red rock formations.
These rock formations offer wonderful destinations to enjoy hiking, biking, scenery and more. The rock formation include Castle Rock, Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte and more. Visitors along the byway can stop to enjoy recreating at these amazing formations, there are marked trailheads which offer easy access.
The Little Horse Trail and Bell Rock Pathway are a wonderful option for hikers and bikers. Little Horse Trail is just over 6 miles round-trip and offers a moderate difficulty level. Along this trail visitors should be sure to see views of the "Three Nuns" and the Chapel of the HOly Cross below. This trail also offers views of Cathedral Rock, with it's spires and beautiful red rock.
Another wonderful trailhead option is the southern entrance to Bell Rock Vista and Pathway. At this scenic point visitors have the opportunity to enjoy views of both Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. From this trail head there are a variety of options for continuing closer to Bell Rock.
Visitors should also be sure to stop and enjoy the scenery at Red Rock Crossing on Oak Creek. This takes travelers a little off the paved road, but it offers amazing views. At this destination visitors can enjoy both the red rocks at Oak Creek as well as views of the amazing red rock formations in the distance. Another option for recreation at this destination is the nearby Red Rock State Park.
Mountain biking enthusiasts should be sure to make the Red Rock Scenic Byway a destination during any trip to Arizona. This beautiful region combines scenery as well as varied and challenging mountain biking terrain. Bikers will find trails throughout the region, leading in and out of Sedona and around many of the regions fantastic destinations. Bell Rock Pathway offers a moderate experience, but offers views of some of the most well-known rock formations. Mountain bikers can ride around the red rock formations on Chapel Rock Loop.
This region of Arizona is also a great destination for golfing. Throughout the area there are three public golf courses, which travelers can enjoy. Each offers a wonderful golfing experience combined with enjoyment of the region's natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy a round or more of golf at Canyon Mesa Country Club, the Sedona Golf Resort or even at Oak Creek Country Club.
Of course travelers can also enjoy all of the relaxation offered throughout the Sedona and Red Rock area before and after driving this magnificent scenic byway. Throughout this amazing region travelers are sure to find plenty of adventure and fun.
