The geographical center of North America lies in the central region, a land of lakes, historic sites, and the International Peace Garden, along the border with Canada. Far to the north lie the Turtle Mountains and Lake Metigoshe, a beautiful site for canoeing or boating. The Chippewa called this place "Metigoshe Washegum," or "clear lake surrounded by oaks."
