| Begin in the farmland of the west and sink into the southern pace of Memphis and its surroundings. Fish for bass and catfish in Reelfoot or Kentucky Lakes, or play a round of golf in Paris (Paris, Tennessee, that is). Further west, in the middle region, view the sites of some of the Civil War's bloodiest battles at Fort Donelson and Franklin. Enjoy the horses and rolling hills of this region, along with the spectacular waterfalls at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Drive along the Heritage Trail, south of Nashville, or enter the city itself for a stop at the historic Grand Ole Opry. The mountainous east contains wildlife and wildflowers in abundance. Head for the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, which botanists say contains more plant species than all of Europe. Watch for black bears, deer, bats, and birds, or shoot the rapids of the Ocoee River. Try kayaking on the Cumberland River, or tour the historic sites and museums atop Chattanooga's Lookout Mountain |
