Road Trip: Chattanooga, TN to Mammoth Cave, KY

Hit the Road and Discover Chattanooga, TN to Mammoth Cave, KY


The trip from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky, through Rock City in Georgia is a great way to see some of the beautiful scenery of Tennessee and Kentucky. This trip covers a little over 200 miles and can be done in a day, but its a lot more fun if you allow a few days to explore the area. If you want to add a little distance and see a bit more, a detour through Nashville adds a bit of excitement to the trip.

Traveling South to North, road trippers can start their adventure in Chattanooga. The city of Chattanooga is filled with fun attractions. Although it is possible to visit a few of the main attractions in the city and continue on the road trip, it is best to allow some time to visit the attractions that suit the interests of your group.

Chattanooga is filled with fascinating museums, fun attractions and exciting festivals. The Tennessee Aquarium is always a great place to spend a few hours or a day. Located on the bank of the Tennessee River, the building is filled with amazing sea creatures and more. Visitors of all ages will love watching the otters, or baby gators, or the sharks, or stingrays, sturgeon and more. For an even bigger adventure, the Aquarium offers a cruise onto the Tennessee River.

The International Towing and Recovery Museum is another excellent destination in Chattanooga. The towing industry started in Chattanooga and this museum is a great way to learn all about the history of the towing and recovery industry, and have fun. Visitors can see the different tow trucks within the museum, as well as many toy tow trucks.

After spending time exploring Chattanooga, travel north to Rock City in Georgia. Located on top of Lookout Mountain, Rock City is a great place to enjoy amazing views of the surrounding area and explore the fascinating gardens. Visitors walk along The Enchanted Trail, where they can enjoy the rock formations, caves and gardens. From this location its possible to see views of seven states.

Next after exploring Rock City, travel north to Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, another excellent road trip destination. Mammoth Cave National Park is an ideal final destination for your road trip, not only is it a stunning geological wonder, but it is also a great spot to spend some time recreating. The park encompasses part of the Green River Valley, and preserves Mammoth Cave.

Mammoth Cave is the longest known cave system in the world. To date, 390 miles of the system have been explored. The first step in a visit to Mammoth Cave is a cave tour to see the amazing cave system in person. However, the caves are only the beginning of the wonderful attractions you will find in this park.

Throughout out the park there are many points of interest to explore, including Cedar Sink, The Big Woods, Sloan's Crossing Pond, Cathedral Domes, Cave Island, Frozen Niagara and more. Without spending at least a day or two at Mammoth Cave National Park, you won't be able to visit many of the amazing sights that can be found within the park. Mammoth Cave National Park also has plenty of opportunities for recreation, camping, water recreation and more.

The trip between Chattanooga, Rock City and Mammoth Cave National Park is a great way to spend a few days. Driving time is fairly limited, leaving as much time as possible for exploring. The best road trips are those that have plenty of places to explore and not too much driving between destinations. Each major destination on this route offers something different to travelers, making this road trip a great combination of destinations.
