Fort Myers and the surrounding area is a great spot to start a road trip in Southern Florida. Visitors can stop to see the manatees at Manatee Park. Watching the seemingly serene animals is a truly unique experience. In addition to Manatee Park, the Fort Myers area is a good spot to enjoy some challenging and fun golfing. One great course is located on Sanibel Island. Those visitors that aren't as enthusiastic about golf will also enjoy spending time on Sanibel and Captiva.

Located off of the coast of Fort Myers, Sanibel and Captiva are two islands accessible by causeway. Visitors to Sanibel and Captiva can hike along the beautiful beach, watching for saline and seashells. In addition, the fishing off the coast of Sanibel and Captiva is fantastic. There is a wide selection of fishing charters that take visitors off-shore where fish like groupers, barracuda's and more can be found.

Travelers to Southern Florida should also be sure to spend some time exploring the Everglades National Park. This park covers over 1.5 million acres, making it the largest park in the lower 48 states. It preserves some of the most unique environments in the state of Florida and the United States. Visitors to the Everglades have some amazing opportunities to enjoy wildlife viewing, including many species of beautiful birds and of course some alligators. The Everglades can be explored while hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, boating and much more. One of the most well known destinations in Florida are the Florida Keys. Road trippers can take the amazing Overseas Highway to experience the Keys by car. The Florida Keys are comprised of Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Key West, Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys. Visitors to the Florida Keys should be sure to enjoy the spectacular snorkeling and diving opportunities. The underwater world of the Keys is filled with colorful fish, vibrant coral and even some stunning shipwrecks.

Dry Tortugas National Park, located 70 miles west of Key West is another great Florida Keys destination to enjoy some of the unique nature and history of the region. The cluster of seven islands is composed of coral reefs, sand, and are famous for the bird and marine life found there. Visitors can also learn about the legends of pirates and sunken gold. Dry Tortugas is also home to Fort Jefferson, the largest 19th century American coastal fort.

Travelers interested in learning about shipwrecks can stop at the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum to see some sunken galleons. The Florida Keys are also a great destination to enjoy golfing. Fishing enthusiasts should be sure to stop in Islamorada, the sport-fishing capital of the world. The Earnest Hemingway House on Key West is another fantastic destination within the Florida Keys.
