History, Nature and Wineries in the Hudson Valley, NY


The beautiful Hudson Valley follows the Hudson River, stretching from Albany all the way to New York City. This region is filled with fantastic destinations, including historic destinations, beautiful nature, wineries, and plenty of events. Visitors to New York should be sure to explore all that the Hudson Valley has to offer.

Many people think of the excitement of New York City when planning a trip to New York, but the beautiful Hudson Valley offers visitors a wide variety of activities. Visitors looking to enjoy the outdoors will find plenty to explore. There are tours, trails, parks, skiing and many more options found throughout the region. Travelers can hike on the Appalachian Trail, some sections of the trail in New York are great for more advanced hikers and there are sections that offer an easier adventure. Bear Mountain State Park is another fantastic outdoor destination. This park, located on the Hudson River is a great spot to enjoy water recreation, and also has plenty of trails to enjoy as well. The Catskill Mountains also offer lots of recreations, and are also where visitors can find the beautiful Kaaterskill Falls, the highest waterfall in New York.

While traveling through this fascinating region visitors will learn that the river and the valley are named after Henry Hudson, who sailed up the river in 1609. Kykuit, the historic Rockefeller Estate is another fantastic historic destination. Visitors to Kykuit can enjoy the amazing collection of art, as well as explore the stunning gardens.

Visitors to the Hudson Valley will also discover that in addition to plenty of recreation and beautiful gardens, the region is also an excellent destination to enjoy farm and winery tours. The Hudson-Chatham Winery is a great option for wine enthusiasts. This winery offers wine tastings, and also have a line of maple syrups. Visitors can also tour the Culinary Institute of America, which offers a fantastic option for delicious dining. Farm enthusiasts will find farms that make artisan cheeses, farmers markets, and lots of delicious fresh locally grown produce. The Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture, in Sleepy Hollow is an excellent destination to enjoy learning about the locally grown foods in the region.

Another must-see destination in the Hudson Valley is the United States Military Academy at West Point, which is the oldest military academy in the country. Visitors to this unique destination can enjoy a guided tour of the facility. In addition visitors can stop at the Visitor Center and the museum, which has military memorabilia as well as paintings from the region.
