Road Trip | Mexico Beach to St. George Island, Florida

Hit the Road and Explore Cape San Blas Florida.

A road trip from Mexico Beach to St. George Island Florida has something for the entire family to enjoy.

The beautiful Cape San Blas region of Florida is an excellent destination for a relaxing vacation. You can travel from Mexico Beach at the Western end of the area to St. George on the Eastern end. Along the way you can enjoy sport fishing, beautiful Florida beaches, plenty of sun and other recreational opportunities. Between Mexico Beach and St. George, you will also want to be sure to stop at Cape San Blas and Apalachicola.

Mexico Beach
Located right off the Gulf of Mexico, the sandy beaches of Mexico Beach are a great spot to start a relaxing Florida vacation. Mexico Beach is an excellent place to stop and enjoy some fishing during a trip to Florida. Fishing enthusiasts have a variety of options for fishing. The fishing off of the Mexico Beach Fishing Pier and the jetties at the Mexico Beach Canal offer excellent spot to drop a line. Mexico Beach also has many different charter options for saltwater fishing off the coast. The catch off of Mexico Beach can include Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna and many more.

Divers will also have a good time during a visit to Mexico Beach. A local association has been building artificial reefs in the waters off of Mexico Beach. These reefs and a few historic sites make for some excellent recreational diving. After you have spent enough time enjoying the relaxing town of Mexico Beach you can take Highway 98 to Florida 30A, which you follow to the point at Cape San Blas.

Cape San Blas
Upon reaching Cape San Blas you will discover some of the best beaches. Cape San Blas is a barrier island off the barrier peninsula. In addition to the beautiful sandy beaches, Cape San Blas has pleasant green waters and is the ideal designations for pick-up. As you travel along Cape San Blas you will find yourself at the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. This Park has amazing sand beaches, dunes, access to boating and more. While enjoying the sandy beach and the warm gentle waters at St. Joseph Peninsula State Park you can also go boating, swimming, snorkeling and more.

One popular activity is at St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is a prime detonation for summer scalloping. During the summer season the bay scallop population in St. Joseph Bay is fairly significant. In fact you can just go out into the bay and collect the scallops to make a delicious fresh meal.

After spending a day enjoying all that Cape San Blas has to offer, you can continue back on Florida 30A until it rejoins Highway 98 and continue on to Apalachicola.

This great little historic town is filled with Florida charm and you are sure to enjoy exploring during your visit. With the fun shops, excellent dining and accommodations, as well as more stunning beaches, Apalachicola is an ideal destination on your Florida coast trip. The wonderful little town also has some fascinating museums including the Apalachicola Maritime Museum. You will also discover the many parks and nature areas as you explore the town. The nearby Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Apalachicola National Forest both have some pristine wilderness for you to enjoy.

St. George Island
Finally, finish your Florida coastal road trip by visiting St. George Island. This barrier island has some amazingly beautiful sites. As with the rest of the coast, St. George has stunning beaches, great for relaxing. You can also enjoy more swimming, fishing and even wildlife watching at some of the marshes. The St. George Island Lighthouse is instantly recognizable, standing out in the center of town. In addition, the island also has a great state park, the St. George Island State Park, which protects the sand dunes, salt marshes and other natural habitat on the barrier island. As you enjoy the outdoor activities on St. George Island you may also want to spend some time shopping and enjoying all of the excellent dining options in the area.
