Guadalupe River State Park | El Capitan

From red rocks to spring feed lakes, lazy rivers and Gulf Coast beaches Texas State Parks offer something for everyone.  Grab your rod and reel for a weekend of fishing or hit some of the historic sites for an educational outing.  Read on to see some of our favorite Texas State Parks + Find Campgrounds near Texas State parks.
Big Bend Ranch State Park
Located in the Chihuahuan Desert, this park covers over 300,000 acres. The park has some amazingly remote terrain. Visitors can enjoy the two mountain ranges, within which visitors will enjoy seeing extinct volcanoes as well as canyons and even waterfalls. This park is a good destination for backpacking, hiking and much more.

Caprock Canyon State Park
Caprock Canyon State Park is home to a herd of southern plains bison. These bison can be observed by visitors to the park from a distance. In addition visitors can enjoy plenty of recreation. Caprock Canyon State Park is great for hiking and biking on miles of trails. The park also has options for boating, swimming, scenic drives and guided tours.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
This park is a wonderful destination to enjoy some beautiful rock formations and features. Enchanted Rocks is good for primitive backpacking as well as camping and hiking. The park is a great destination for rock climbing. There are plenty of rock formations that offer technical rock climbing options.

Guadalupe River State Park
Guadalupe River State Park is located in southeastern Texas and is divided by the Guadalupe River. Visitors to this park will find that it has some of the best access to riverfront. The cool waters of the river make it a fantastic summer destination for water recreation, including canoeing, floating, fishing and more. The park also has plenty of year round recreational activities as well, including hiking and enjoying some of the amazing natural scenery of the park.

Lake Whitney State Park
Lake Whitney has many recreation activities to be enjoyed. Visitors can spend time camping, hiking, biking, boating, fishing and others. The park is also a good destination for scuba diving and bird watching. Visitors can also take advantage of the ranger programs.

Longhorn Cavern State Park
This park features amazing caverns, which visitors can enjoy on a tour. The tours are guided and they last about an hour. On the tours visitors can learn about the geology of the cavern . In addition the park offers other recreational activities, including hiking, fishing and more.

Lost Maples State Natural Area
This natural area is a fantastic fall color destination. Lost Maples State Natural Area is named for the stand of Bigtooth Maple, which put on an amazing display of fall colors at the end of October. However, the park is a great year-round destination. Visitors to Lost Maples State Natural Area can enjoy backpacking, birdwatching, swimming, hiking, fishing and more. The park has plenty of marked trails, and rugged terrain that provides excellent views of the natural beauty of the area, especially the maples.

Mustang Island State Park
The beaches of Mustang Island State Park stretch for miles along the Gulf Coast. Visitors will love the beautiful white sand beaches. Visitors can enjoy relaxing on the beach, surfing, kayaking and more. In addition it is a wonderful destination for wildlife and bird watching.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Palo Duro Canyon State Park is filled with beautiful terrain. Filled with painted canyons canyons this is a wonderful Texas destination. Visitors can enjoy hiking, bird watching, biking and even scenic drives. The park also features a fantastic rustic stone building as the visitor center, where visitors can learn about the history of the canyon.

Pedernales Falls State Park
This park features some beautiful twin falls. Within the park visitors will enjoy plenty of hiking, biking, birdwatching, and even river activities. Pedernales Falls State Park also has a wonderful equestrian trail. The Pedernales River can often be a good destination for water activities, including tubing, swimming and more.
