Take a Tasty Trip Along the Hermann Wine Trail

One of Missouri's wonderful culinary adventures is the Hermann Wine Trail. This trail follows the Missouri River for 20 miles, from Hermann to New Haven. As travelers follow this trail they have the opportunity to visit the seven wonderful family-owned wineries.

Each of these wineries offers visitors a unique experience. The oldest of the wineries is the Adam Puchta Winery, where visitors can enjoy the wineries deep roots as well as fantastic wines during a visit. At Stone Hill Winery, visitors can not only enjoy the wine, but also the restaurant, as well as fantastic cellars, and carriage house and more. The Hermannhof Winery has a historic cellars and buildings, and produces some award winning wines that visitors can enjoy. Next visitors can stop at Dierberg Star Lane, which features their three wonderful California wines. OakGlenn Winery has a beautiful setting on the bluffs of the Missouri River, and often has live entertainment. then, visitors can travel to the Bias Vineyards and Winery produces the wine right at their vineyards, so visitors can see the whole process at this winery. Las but not least comes the Robller Winery, with not only excellent wine, but also a wonderful spot for a family picnic.

After enjoying the fantastic wines of the Hermann Wine Trail, travelers can return home and enjoy preparing some delicious meals using amazing wines. Here are two easy and delicious recipes you can try at home.

A tradition of fine winemaking begun in 1855 by Adam Puchta is continued today by his great-great grandson. Missouri’s oldest family farm winery is located along a creek in the beautiful Frene Valley just two miles southwest of Hermann.

Directions: Take Highway 100 West from Hermann. Turn left on Frene Creek Road.
Summer Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9:00 to 6:00; Sundays, 11:00 to 6:00
Winter Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9:00 to 5:00; Sundays, 11:00 to 5:00


Bias Vineyards & Winery

Bias Vineyards and Winery, a small family-owned winery near Berger, produces wine from vineyards just 600 feet from the winery, which allows harvest and crush to take place when grapes are at their peak. Pressing, fermentation, aging and bottling are all performed at the winery as well.

Directions: From Hermann, take Highway 100 East 7 miles. Turn left on Highway B.

Dierberg Star Lane

Learn more about three California vineyards with a Hermann connection. Dierberg Estate Vineyards lies close to the Pacific Ocean in California’s Central Coast wine region. The vineyards provide both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for Dierberg Estate wines. Star Lane Vineyards at the far eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley is both the warmest and the highest elevation vineyard in the appellation. Three Saints wines are made from grapes carefully selected from the Dierberg Family’s vineyards in three of Santa Barbara County’s premium wine growing regions: Santa Maria Valley, Santa Rita Hills and Santa Ynez Valley.

Directions: The tasting room is located at 338 East First Street in Hermann, next to Hermannhof Winery.

Hermannhof Winery

Hermannhof’s 10 stone cellars and brick superstructure are among the early Hermann buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1978, the Hermannhof Cellars were purchased by the James Dierberg family and renewal began. Today, the winery has a production capacity of 50,000 gallons. Hermannhof is a two-time winner of the Brown-Foreman Trophy for “Best New World White Wine.”

Directions: The winery is located at 330 East First Street in the Hermann.

OakGlenn Winery

Tucked high and away on the bluffs of the Missouri River, OakGlenn offers a breathtaking countryside view. OakGlenn was owned in 1859 by internationally known horticulturist and vintner, George Husmann. The George Husmann Wine Pavilion, open daily, offers a large selection of premium wines. Live entertainment most Saturdays in the summer and fall.

Directions: From Hermann, take Highway 100 East for 2.7 miles. Turn left at OakGlenn Place.
Summer Hours: Open daily, 10:00 to 6:00; Sunday, noon to 6:00
Winter Hours: Open daily, 10:00 to 5:00


Röbller Winery

Röbller Vineyard is located in the picturesque countryside just east of New Haven, where rich deep soils and gentle slopes provide excellent growing conditions and spectacular views. Families are always welcome—it’s common to find a kite in the sky, one of our dogs on the deck and the winemaker pouring the day’s samples. Pack up the kids and the picnic basket for a day to remember.

Directions: Take Highway 100 to New Haven. Turn south on Röbller Vineyard Road near the water tower.

Stone Hill Winery

Perched on a hill overlooking Hermann, Stone Hill Winery & Restaurant is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Missouri Wine Country. Guests enjoy guided tours of the winery’s cavernous arched underground cellars, three tasting rooms, and a spacious gift shop. German specialties highlight an eclectic menu at Vintage Restaurant, located in the winery’s original stable and carriage house.

Directions: Take Highway 19 south through Hermann. Turn right on Highway 100 West, then right on Washington St. and left on 12th.

Winery Hours: Monday-Saturday 8:30 to dusk; Sunday, 10:00 to 6:00

Restaurant Hours: February-April—Open for lunch and dinner Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, closed Wednesday and Thursday; May-December—Open daily for lunch and dinner; January—closed
