Missouri Camping Gem | Cape Girardeau


The state of Missouri has many fantastic camping destination. One of these is Cape Girardeau. Located in the southeastern corner of the state, this city is one of the true gems of Missouri. Visitors to Missouri should be sure to stop at this fantastic city. Here are a few of the attractions within the city that all visitors should be sure to enjoy.
Throughout the city there are murals, located in some of the most beautiful areas of the city. Each of these murals tell the story of the city. Many of these murals are located in the Old Town area, including the Southeast Missourian's Tile Murals, the University Mural and more. The largest of the murals is the Mississippi River Tales Mural, which has 24 panels, each with a descriptive marker. Visitors can enjoy this mural in the downtown shopping district.

Visitors can also visit some of the many historical sites in the city to learn about its history. Old St. Vincent's Church is a wonderful destination. This attraction has some beautiful English Gothic Revival architecture. Visitors can see many original features, including the pews and alters. Another wonderful feature of the church are the medieval design plaster masks found throughout the church.

The Glenn House is also a good attraction for visitors to learn and experience some of the cities unique history. This house is listed on the national register of historic places, and is a restored home of the 1800s. The house was originally designed in 1883. Visitors can learn about the history of the house, the designer of the house and those that lived in it on a tour of the house.

Travelers to Cape Girardeau should also be sure to visit the Cape River Heritage Museum. Visitors to the museum can explore the exhibits, which contain all sorts of information on the state of Missouri, Gape Girardeau and the Mississippi River. One exhibit that the whole family will love is the fire engine. The museum also has an exhibit on "The Great Depression."

After exploring the historic homes, museums and more, travelers can also visit Fort D. This Fort was built during the Civil War, one of four in Cape Girardeau. Visitors to the Fort can explore the historic Fort, as well as the grounds and learn about the Civil War history of the Cape.

Cape Girardeau also has plenty of attractions for recreation. One of these is the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. This Nature Center has aquariums, hands-on exhibits, opportunities for wildlife viewing. In addition visitors to the Nature Center can enjoy the trails, which travel through beautiful natural features and showcase the regions habitats and wildlife.

Visitors can also travel to the Trail of Tears State Park. At this park, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the Cherokee Indians who died during the forced relocation from 1838 to 1839. The Visitor's Center has exhibits with information about this part of the region's history. The park also has plenty of opportunities for recreation. Throughout the park there are trails, great for hiking, and more. Trail of Tears State Park is also a good destination for fishing, anglers will find bass, catfish and more.

These are just some of the amazing destinations visitors will find throughout Cape Girardeau. Visitors to the state of Missouri should be sure to spend some time in Cape Girardeau, learning about it's unique history, and enjoying it's any attractions.
