 Lake Marion:
Santee National Wildlife Refuge, (fishing, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, bird watching, historic sites). From Sumter, take Hwy 15 south to S-14-373. Turn left (south) onto S-14-121. 803-478-221

Santee Coastal Reserve (bird watching (over 250 species), wildlife viewing, canoeing, trail walking, biking, wildflower viewing). From Hwy 17 between Georgetown and McClellanville, take S-10-857 (South Santee Rd.) to unpaved Santee Gun Club Rd. Feb-Oct. 843-546-8665

Beaufort:
Hunting Island State Park, (sand dunes, salt marsh, wildlife viewing, fishing, trail walks, bird watching, historic lighthouse). From Beaufort, take Hwy. 21 east for 16 miles. 843-838-2011

Wando River:
Palmetto Islands County Park, (boating, biking, trail walks, playgrounds, palmetto trees). From Charleston, take I-26 north to I-526 east (Mark Clark Hwy.), then onto Needlebrush Pkwy. north. 843-884-0832

Charleston:
Boone Hall Plantation, (tour a reconstructed Civil War-era plantation). Off Hwy. 17, east of Charleston. 843-884-4371

ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge (wildlife viewing, bird watching, kayaking). From Charleston, take Hwy. 17 west to Edisto Rd. south. Join SC 174, to Willtown Rd. (S-10-55) west. 803-734-0173
